As with other tractor models, the combination of a thick lug on the rim and a dished wheel centre means that by changing the relationship between rim and wheel centre different track widths could be achieved so allowing the farmer to set the width for different crops, ploughs and other implements.
Try finding an operators manual which should illustrate the settings for different track widths.
Some manufacturers had a wheel rim with spiral rails instead of lugs so the track could be adjusted by slackening the retaining bolts and twisting the rim to alter the track.

Hi Gerry,

From the old forum:

http://www.fordsontractorpages.nl/ubb/F ... 01132.html

And depends a bit on the size of tires.

John, I think 64" is somewhere in the middle.
Cheers,
Les

When our Dexta's came new the wheel track was at 52" centers as in the handbook, we adjusted them for different jobs and plough widths. :D

You have several things to consider.
1. Any width restrictions where you may be expected to take your tractor and trailer too?
2. A wider track will give you better rollover stability and allow tighter turns without the trailer drawbar fouling the tyres.
3. Keeping the front and rear tyres in line may reduce sideslip if travelling over soft ground and leaving a rut.

imho

Gerry
Go to Oscars Home Page and then navigate to the Dexta - Owners Manual and in part 4 you will see the settings for wheel widths both for front and rear and for power adjusted rear wheels.
