Show us your Fordson Dexta

Post by Winchester »

Maybe I missed it, but I can't find a thread where people show off their tractor, I only find many different threads with one or two pics spread out through the forum.
On all the other forums I'm a member of, there usually are a sticky on top where we all post our car, rc, tools, houes, garage and so on.

Can't we make this a sticky where people post up a pic or two of their tractor?

I'll start!

This "black and blue fellow" I,d handed ove to a lad in my neighbourcommunity, who had a friend who also had one Dexta restoring for some time ago. It has live drive and I,d rapaired the footplate - exos - welded some hole in the fenders, and the front loadframe on it. Hope they can have many good time with helping eachother with their,s Dextas. :)

yes she(he) is original. I know the history of it from it was new, and my father bought it in 1978 and I inherited it in 1991.
The hydraulic chest is taken from a Ford 4600 and fits directly on to the cover. With this I can have 4 hyd. outlets

those pics was taken last year when it was newly painted. After that I have put on a front end loader and I use it for different odd jobs, snowcleaning, woodlogging etc. Unfortunately I'm not a farmer so I don't have any heavy jobs to use it for

Mine has been busy knocking overgrown grass over.

The ground here is littered with stone ranging from pebbles to buried boulders, the wheeled mower doesn't drag on the ground and wear out skids.

The mower is a Chinese import, even most of our 'local' brands use chinese gearboxes and other parts. So far it's been fine. The wheel and the linkage keep the body off the ground so it clears the hard stuff! Copes well in low 2nd or high 1st for the sparse stuff.
My Dexta is a 1961, same year as me! The climate here is pretty dry, mild winter frosts, no snow, so tinware original, one day I'll get an original precleaner forthe air filter, previous owner put that on. Just love my old blue girl!

Avery nice tractor. I was about to ask you about the precleaner if it was a special made for dusty contitions or something. I also see you have two bars coming out at the front. Do they have a purpuse?

Only to bang my knees on! I suspect a previous owner had some kind of grille guard on, those bars are welded on or I'd take them off, they are useful for 'parking by braille' though!

Hi Dexta Roadless
Some super Dexta pics there!
One very small point IMHO, on the pic of the left side showing the seat and battery etc I would really like to see some sort of insulation cover on your live battery post.
One dropped spanner and phut! bang goes your battery!!
We can all dream of a Roadless Dexta!
Cheers

Would you be willing to post up some more detailed pics and information on that hydraulic system ?
Still looking to upgrade my hydraulic with more functions, and that looked like a nice solution :) :)

Jerry. The battery clamp you see on the bicture is the negative or ground. The positive is hidden beneath the hyd. lift arm. BUT you are right, this is not healthy for the battery. I should also doubleinsulated the live cable going from this battery with an extra hose.
Tom. what I have here is a sentral from a ford 4600 with 4 outlets and beneath that i have a "malm orstad plate" to take out the oil to the front end loader. The front end loader sentral need in this case to have in addition to feed and return a non pressure return Ie tree pipes. In addition I have mounted a lifting ram from a ford 4000 for the 3 point. That gives me approx. 50% increase in strength with the same pressure.
So now I have a front end loader lifting about 1000 kgs and about 1250 at the rear.

Please could you post a pic of the rear view of your Dexta. I'm intrigued to know how the lifting ram on the 3 point works? TIA

Ben
I don't have pictures of the assembly because it is the internal ram i swap to ford 4000. The ram looks identical ezcept the bore is 84mm instead of 74. However the high pressure valve is placed at the front instead of on the top, so i'm not sure if it fit in a 2wd without the extra space wich I have in my Roadless. But it should be possible to put in a 90 degree pipe between to point it downwards instead.
