In Britain this became mandatory, if you do use it properly it should work fine, assuming the tap seals properly.

There is a mod you can do but I haven't tried it yet https://old20tractorparts.com/dexta/297 ... 10206.html
This is what Bluebilly did (I don't know if he used this kit or not), and it's the MF system, which I find a bit risky if the valve unit fails, it also needs a suitable mounting point.

Hi Sandy, apologies for going slightly off topic but the bit about government regulations is very interesting. Modern diesels fitted with a diesel particulate filter (DPF) require an automatic DPF regen when the ECU senses soot level reaches 40%, the ecu injects up to 8 times the amount of fuel (post combustion) to increase the heat in the DPF and burn off the particulates. My van is programmed to break the law!

I would have thought putting in that much fuel would make a bigger mess because of less oxygen being available. Very interesting indeed.
In 1964 there were some things added by regulations too, I'll post the service letters tomorrow.

I did fit the manifold tap as recommended by others here but it leaked rather badly resulting in fuel still leaking into the sump. I tested it by shutting the tap off and disconnecting the pipe from the manifold and placing it into a jar at the same level as the manifold. The next day the jar was full of diesel!

Looks like the tap needs lapping in, repro parts really can be as bad as that. I would recommend you try to find an original one.

Options / advice please
My fuel tap ,primer is leaking, damp .
I have never needed to use heat on my s/ dexta or indeed use the primer. Lancashire UK
Don't think anything leaks from atomizer into sump , turned off I think . Bought a new tap but leaks every were so swapped back to the original with broken lever.
Mine has a glass bowl. Water trap .
Do I buy new tap with primer , from who ? I recall lots of new ones leaked ? Or just go standard tap with one outlet and no pipe to. Atomizer??
Working tractor not to conserned re. Originality.

I would first have a go at fixing the tap before getting a new one, but yes I would get a tap with a primer in case you ever needed it.

Thumb screw off spindle gone so its a pliers job to isolate, all damp with fuel .
Dont think enough brass to attach new handle??

You could get a new Major tap and swap the spindles, it's probably the o-ring that's leaking (Billy's one does and the tap is permanently covered in diesel), alternatively get a new o-ring and remake the spindle handle when the tap's in bits.

So if i bought this

The spindle should fit my primer tap , or worst case i swap whole tap ??
Interesting

It should fit, but look around for the one that is most similar to your one as there are several kinds from aftermarket suppliers, do avoid any plastic spindles as they're as bad as they sound.

Had a plastic on my mf65 then bought a metal one.

Agriline primer tap ?? Looks right,? Should be right at the price but i know some of their stuff is poor quality 😕

I would try to find a Major one like the one you posted earlier with a metal spindle to fix your current one, you could always get a second hand genuine one instead, but it's likely to need preliminary work before it's ready. Do avoid plastic ones, and Agriline's one looks like it's a plastic one.
