I'm almost all done with my alternator conversion. But when I tried to make it fit with the old bracket it was clear that this would not work.
The bracket is a bit to large. And I need to make a new bracket.

Anyone got some pictures of how they fitted their alternator after conversion?

My friend made me a new bracket and assures me everything will line up! The rear mounting point has a bush that fits around bolt & through the alternator bracket, all clamps up when the nut is tightened. There's also a bush on the tensioning bracket, so the pulley/belt alignment is correct.

Thank you both! I have one like in the first pic. It seems that I need to weld up a new bracket with longer arms.
I was out again just now to see where it hits, and it stops at the baseplate of the bracket where the two holes are to bolt it to the engine.
Longer arm would make it swing further back against the engine.
Using the old bracket as it is now, would make the alternator stikk out about"horisontal"

Not wishing to hijack the thread but I see you have the later nose cone on your Dex. Do you know when it was introduced? I'm guessing about mid '62?


YDM, did you have to cut away any part of your front axle support bracket to clear the alternator at the bottom? Your support doesn't look quite the same as mine.

Also not quite sure what supports the rear of your alternator, as it appears to only have one bracket, unlike mine which has two?

That's also the way it is on my three american cars. Only one bracket in the front of the alternator. And the adjusting bracket on the other side.
I think this is enough as all the force are placed between those two points.

What is the diameter of your alternator? The body of mine is ~5" dia x 5" long, rated at 70Amps.

Ben, Nothing supports the alternator at the back, Thats how it is, Infact it can be Left or Right fitting, and i think it is like the ones fitted to some Vauxhalls.
and guess what i used for an adjuster bracket, well you never would, lol was the slotted side of a spare qudrant lever . As it happens i bought it of ebay and it was pictured like yours, but when it came it was different but i liked the look of it so thats how i fitted it, and it works spot on.
Your question about the nose cone, i did'nt know at the time there was a different one, i got that one from Emmark, had a good look before i bought it and it seemed really good, just bolted stright on without any paring or bending. Jim.

Yes, and I can adjust it some back and front using some nuts. And I offset it a bit to make the pulleys line up, as the new alternator would sit a bit back in the original bracket.
I made it after this picture, but made it a litte wider to make it more stabil, and I was not going to pay 60 dollar to get this shipped to norway, part and shipping that is!

Yes, that is the page. But look at the price! I can't understand that a little bent piece of metal are going to be $45 + shipping.
I made mine for the price of 2 dollars and a half hour of welding and sanding.
