Hi all,
My 1960 Dexta has a later engine fitted with a mechanical govenor.
The inlet manifold has a butterfly presumably to create the vacuum if it were a vacuum governed engine. Does the mechanically governed engine still have this normally? Should I remove the butterfly and just blank the holes. Another option would be to get the correct manifold and throttle links.
The throttle linkage is also a bit of a mess and wondering if it is something that someone has made up or if it is the correct thing.
If anyone has any pictures of what throttle links would normally be on a mechanically governed engine that would be great to see them.

Have a look on the parts list at vugot.com.

The Minimec pump does not need the butterfly. You can remove it and blank the holes. It could restrict the air flow if left in there as it is not now controlled by the throttle lever.

Re: Engine differences - mech /vaccum governed
Hi All,
I have been out re-wiring the tractor today. While I was there I took a couple of pictures....
I have a 1960 dexta that appears to have a later engine fitted. The original was maybe a vacuum governed one and this one is mechanically governed.
The throttle linkages seem to be a bit odd and don't seem to work well.
The link coming through under the fuel tank pulls and pushes around a link that goes across in front of the air filter to open and close the butterfly in the inlet manifold. The spring in the picture pulls another link that comes across to the left side to pull on the injector pump lever.....
Can anyone take a picture of what should be there on a mechanically governed one. I will be removing the butterfly from the inlet manifold at some point but it would be good to connect up the throttle properly.
Also... what am I missing?... there must be something the bonnet prop goes into.
Edit: should there be anything for holding the battery in?

hi
end of my bonet support goes either in the sloted hole or the square one , near ur earth lead bolt , which ever i spot first
i need a battery retainer thingy too

My bonnet would be nearly closed if I tried either of those. I have been pulling out the exhaust opening the bonnet and popping the exhaust back in to hold the bonnet up.
How does the battery clamp attach? I see no obvious holes.

Re: Engine differences - mech /vaccum governed
I think I might have figured out the bulhead and bonnet prop problem.
Looking at the thread: http://www.fordsontractorpages.nl/phpbb ... php?p=9149
It looks like there is a standard dexta and super dexta bulkhead.
Edit: A picture from that thread showing what I presume is a standard dexta bulkhead ....
It seems I might have a super dexta bulkhead (short one) and a standard dexta bonnet.

hi
my bonnet prop is about 17 " long
i 'm guessin the two slotted holes are for the battery clamp , and the square one for the prop ?

hi the super dexta bonnet rod for attaching to bulk head is also longer than
the standered dexta , but one can be easily made to fit from metal rod.
