Brake cross shaft oil leak

Hi. I seem to be leaking oil quite badly from my brake cross shaft on my 1958 Dexta despite replacing the oil seals.

Any ideas why this should be?

If after having fitted new oil seals there is still an oil leak, I suspect that you will find that both the bushes and the shaft itself are worn and require to be renewed.

Ah ok, I've looked at new bushes, but where can I get a new shaft from?

Doubt you will find a new shaft. Look into speedi-sleeve kit(s) for it.
I welded mine up and re-turned in a lathe, but I have free access to a small machine shop.....probably not a good choice if you're paying going rates.

Hi everyone,

I have today removed the brake cross shaft, and the seals that should stop leaks, to find that the seals are about 1mm too large!

No wonder they leaked oil!

They were from the well known A******e supplier, who seem to have their fair share of issues with poor spares.....

Too late to send them back now, they were purchased approx 1 year ago :(

Time to seek out some that fit!
