1958 dexta newbie

Post by stugreen »

Well hello all,
Here's a little about myself, my names Stuart and for the last 10months I have been stripping down and fetteling up a 1958 fordson dexta, many hours have gone in so far but the end is near. Lost count of all the jobs I've done but never the less I have enjoyed every job, currently have the hydraulic top cover stripped down on my bench for cleaning and rebuilding! Probably a little to late signing up now project is nearly over as I've spent 10months reading the manual and banging my head off the tool box when most of you guys would of been able to simplify it all for!

Thanks Tom, this is the 3rd time in restoration I have had this top off lol, I'm poor for space in my workshop.
But yea this is the last problam I have to sort is the worn cam making the arm push the pin in at a angle and restricting lift, currently making one good top from two not so clever tops but happy days Im enjoying myself! I will post some pictures up tonight if I get time and show everyone my progress

Well after 12hours at work and a 3:30am start I've just come in from 5hours in the garage stripping down 2 hydraulic tops and getting ready for tomorrow which is rebuild day, why of why is it that the cotter pin that's the hardest to get to is always seized in the middle and the split pin never wants to just come out no matter how strait you get the ends lol
Roll
On 1630 tomorrow :)

Great photos Stuart!
Thanks for sharing.
How early a '58 is your Dexta?

Always intrigued by the stone buildings and rock walls.
We have lots of the raw ingredients here but.... how to mix them to stand up!?

Thanks les, yes stone work to me is a second nature years of being forced as a kid on the farm :) as for how early I'm guessing rather early serial number is 5759 and casting code show march 1958 I belive! As we speak it's sat in the spray booth while the paint cooks on so roll on Thursday :)
