Dexta without hydraulics

I've just bought a 1959 Dexta and am trying to find out any info I can about it. It doesn't have any hydraulics at all but it does have a PTO (And it's on turf tyres.) Has someone taken the hydraulics off at some point or did Fordson make them like this? The guy who sold it to me said it has never been on a farm but has spent it's life on an estate having an easy time of it. This seems believeable as it's in very good original condition with only 4000 hours on the clock, which could be genuine considering the very good way it looks, feels and drives. I have traweled the interweb but can find no mention of a Dex without hydraulics, any ideas....?

Industrial Dextas didn't have any hydraulics as they were intended for pulling wagons etc in factories, rather than using farm implements. Perhaps yours was used for mowing with gang mowers?

What colour is it - I believe the industrial ones were yellow rather than blue?

Hope you enjoy the board!

Thanks for your reply. My Dexta is blue/orange and looks like an ordinary Dexta in every way with the exception of its lack of hydraulics. Didn't the industrial ones have big rear mudguards, mudguards on the front, wing mirrors etc. mine has none of that, totally standard. The chap who sold it to me said it was a rare "estate tractor" rather than a farm tractor, but I can find no mention of Fordson producing such a thing.

Yes that's correct, perhaps you've seen the Industrial Dexta brochure on the main website here.

Maybe the hydaulic top has been removed and blanked off for some reason? It should be easy to refit a top should you wish to. Does it have an hydraulic pump evident on the RH side of the rear transmission housing, or is that blanked off also? Have you any pics - they might help clarify its history?

In T&M it mentions a Dexta for use on grass cutting or parks which came in blue on grassland tyres with or without pto or hydraulics but had a tow hitch instead. Launched in 1959. In fact I think there was one on Ebay last year....
