Hi.
I can hear a pronounced chuffing sound through the air filter on my 1958 Dexta. Does it mean I need more oil in, or less? Or is it another problem entirely?

Chuffing air filter

Re: Chuffing air filter
My memory is not real good but isn't there a line on the air filter bowl that shows where the oil level should be?
If the oil level is correct My first guess would be a tight, sticking, or burnt intake valve. You might want to check your valve clearances.

there should be a oil level mark on the bowl ,i agree.

Re: Chuffing air filter
Hi. I checked my valve clearances tonight and they were a mile out!
It's made the world of difference, quieter, chuffing from the air filter stopped and almost no smoke!
Thanks for the top Chris

Good to hear that it worked out for you Glad you caught it before any damage was done. It's also nice to get the reply
