Here's a pic of my 1958 Dexta ploughing with a 3 furrow plough to bed in the engine after it's rebuild...

Hi. I will have to take a picture of the plough as I don't have one to post at the moment.
The tractor coped fine in 1st Low with the three furrow, and faster and it was too much...

More pictures...

I've since reset my valve clearances and now she will handle the plough in 2nd gear relatively easily, even today, when it was rather sticky indeed!

I did not think a Dexta could handle a 3F plough. Good job.
Kind regards, Henk

What bodies are those on your plough?

Looks to be ploughing quite deep - how many inches?

Impressive!

Hi.

I think the plough bodies are just GP (General Purpose) ones, to be honest I wasn't measuring how deep I was ploughing, but I guess it was around 5-6"

She was working hard, but not out of her depth as the engine could still be throttled up easily when running at 1600 rpm.

My exhaust is awful and makes the sweet engine sound harsh and nasty, I knew I should have paid a bit more and got a better one :(

I just love those pics of the old Dex turning the soil....For the size of the tractor, you wont find many that will pull a 3 bottom with those results. I can almost smell the earth and diesel smoke.... sigh...

nicely done...

Hi.

I've got one very similar to this one

Image

It's fine at idle, but at anything above 1500rpm it's horrendous

I keep looking at this one, it's much more in keeping with the original, and hopefully quieter too.....

That's a heck of a load your pulling with no rear wheel weights. Are you rear tires filled with fluid? :scratchhead:

Are those 19" front wheels common in England?

Hi.

@ Vulgunx - The tyres are I believe the originals, they are in quite poor condition with cracking, but they still hold air, and are quite sought after, so they can stay for now! I will check the make when I go to the tractor again.

@ Cvans - No rear weight's, no fluid in the tyres, just the hydraulics serviced and set up well, and it pulls that 3 furrow plough easily, in really quite damp conditions, in second gear at approx 1600 rpm with minimal wheelslip and virtually no smoke.

@ Broadspeed - I believe the 19" x 4" front wheels were common on the early Dexta's, after they were changed for 16" x 6" wider versions, I guess the decision was due to the fitment of loaders...
