V5 UK Registration Document - my maiden post!

Hi,
I've just joined the Forum!
I'm hoping to buy a Dexta. It appears to have a 'valid' V5 registration doc with the following info:
Number plate reg num: Old style black plate with 3 letters followed by 3 digits.
Date of first registration: 27.10.58 (according to V5)
VIN/Chassis/Frame No: 95E368 (according to V5)
Engine number: none recorded on the V5
We are trying to read the serial number and engine number off the tractor, according to the helpful instructions on this Forum.
Questions:
1. The V5 VIN number looks to be incorrect, should it start with 957E? Also it only has 3 digits? Is this possible?
2. Is a V5 valid with no engine number?
3. What should I do next to check tractor is identified and registered correctly?
Many thanks,
Ben
