Notice you have adjustable steady bars on your linkage - your own design or were they on the tractor originally?

Unfortunately no, I made it straight from scratch But the idea You can get from the pics on page 2

Those are universal steady bars. Available in almost every farm shop in Finland

Can you operate with one or both their pins removed, to give more lateral movement of the linkage, eg for a harrow?

Although, I see you have no check chains, so you must use the steady bars?

Yes, You can operate one or both pins removed. Or both pins on place, depending what You are doing

I noticed that I don't need check chains with this type steady bars in use

Sadly those steady bars don't seem to be available in England.

Quite suprising, because they are so handy

Anyway it is easy make those kind of steady bars yourself. Couple pieces tube with different diameters and drill few holes to them

Today assembled snow chains and noticed that Agriline ignition/light switch wont work after couple months use

Where to get new one with better quality?

For that reason, I fitted separate light and 'ignition' switches like a Super D.

Got an original Super D light switch and fitted a Hobbs ignition switch on the RH side of the lower dash, as per Super D. See here:

Yes that's one choice. But I would like to keep this original style switch

And the standard bracket under the axle is replaced by one on the steady bar?

Yes the standard bracket is replaced with ones that come with steady bars. Needed a little bit modification to fit, but works wery well now

In fact from December 1961 standard Dextas had separate switches, like the Super D, so I don't feel guilty!

Can't speak for sure about the repro switches as I got an original one, but my guess is yes, because the water can't get down the middle as there is no key hole. Also I packed my light switch with silicon grease to keep water out.

Pretty sure Fordson changed the switch design to avoid the water problem.

Maybe I try one more time with original style switch. Just try to keep it dry better

Just looking at your Stabiliser (Steady) bars again:

Your adjustable bars go from under the rear axle to the lift arm attachment half way along the lower arms (where check chains would normally attach), unlike the standard stabilser bars which go from under the axle to the rear end of the lower arms.

This means that with your Stab bars, the lower arms are subjected to sideways bending due to side loads from the implement, which doesn't happen with standard bars.

However it looks like you have strengthened your lower arm by welding on top/bottom flanges to resist the sideways bending, but only on the LH arm? Does the lower flange you've added underneath the LH arm, run the full length of the arm?

So I'm just wondering if the standard Stab bars aren't actually a stronger design afterall - I wouldn't like a kink in my lower arms?

LH arm is strenghtened by some previous owner. Looks that it has been in two pieces.. So that's why the LH side looks different.

Standard steady bars would be better. Haven't ever seen a picture of originals, so does anyone have a pic

Saw a pair of these steady bars for sale at the Tractor show last sat at the Bath & West showground.
Spoke to the vendor, they are off a Ford 3000?. He wanted £300!

Just bought a pair of these long adjustable bars from A..line, at £15 a side. http://www.agrilineproducts.com/Catalog ... 39f4d9956f

They go from the pin under the axle to the implement lower hitch pins, so a stronger set up than the short bars. The lower link arms are quite flimsy in sideways bending.

And also a pair of stabiliser chains with adjustable turnbuckle, for use with my harrows in place of the bars. Will post pic later. I did need to straighten the angle of the link pin eyes on the chain to match the geometry - easily done in a press.

Broadspeed, I've never seen anyone put heavy vertical chains on there tractor before. How do these help? To keep your tractor from lifting to it's maximum height?
