seals on hydraulic piston

Hello from spring in NZ, I have been overhauling the hydraulics, usual issues, replaced pivot pin, freed yoke to adjust etc. I have received an o-ring and seal kit, I can't work out exactly what to do with what I presume are seals for the piston. In the kit is a large rubber o-ring and a flat leather seal. In the groove on the piston at present is a modern looking flexible oil seal, nothing like what is in the kit. If I am to replace with the new ones, what order do they fit in? :?
The parts list and repair manual don't seem to make this clear.

Hope someone can enlighten me!

Regards, Derek.

Dereck,
You have the seal kit for the later tractor, the 2000 and 3000 range. ou will be alright with the "O" rings but the piston seal is not correct for your tractor.

I would suggest a local hydraulic specialist who will measure the seal and supply oneof a high specification. I had one made for my Major and it was pretty cheap and very succesful. Fast supply too!

Thank you for that, thought something was odd!

We have some excellent seal/bearing folks here as well as a FNH dealership so it shouldn't be a problem to track something down.

Looking forward to getting everything back together to see the improvements.

Regards, Derek

No problems getting a seal, the local J Deere shop has an attached hydraulics unit, had one next day. My problem now is how to re-insert the piston into the cylinder without damaging the new seal as it is decidedly firm and I just don't seem to have enough fingers to compress it all the way round! Know any good tricks please?

How about a piston ring clamp or a hose clip? I normally use a screw driver very carefully at the same time as keeping a little push on the piston. Plenty of oil will help.

Love from Dotty, the petrol Dexta now back home from New Zealand and living with Brian.
