Dexta assistance

Post by Jerry Coles »

Hi all
Had to move one of my Dexta's (A/W restoration) so what better way than to use a Dexta!
http://s1106.photobucket.com/user/oldtr ... t=3&page=1.
Now ready to go into the barn to start working on it.
Just finished installing a wood burning stove so that should keep me warm for the next few months.
Regards
Jerry

I bought it as a basket case off ebay as it was nearby. Had to park it up for a few weeks. All the parts came with it (a Defender 90 full!) so it just needs some TLC (I'm assured the engine is OK) to put it back together. The seller was a young chap who had found a girlfriend and so lost interest (his B"£$s ruled his brain!!).
Super Dexta with diff lock.
Recently bought the field (!,25 acres) and barn exactly opposite where I live so my dreams come true!!
Just put in a wood burning stove today so now I have heating through the winter.
Now looking for a front cowl as everything else is there (incl new clutch plates).
Cheers

The wood burner is in the barn.
Got it from Machine Mart, the flu, brackets and cowl cost as much as the stove.
First lighting and it roared away and within a few minutes it was throwing out a lot of heat (14kw).
Have got quite few trees to take down and have a Fe£$%^&n Cordwood saw and log splitter to process it all.
Warm in winter!!

workshop envy

been building a new tractor shed / boxed wood store on and off all summer basically dry now

not putting a heater in that one tho. bin to a few workshops with the waste oil burners , they DO through out some heat .

I've a cordwood saw too , plus a mc Connell both very gd . then thru the hyd splitter , then boxed in wooden spud boxes , plan to make steel boxes .

wood is the only heating we have .

Why would you store your wood in steel boxes - won't that stop it drying? I fancy a '1 tonne' mesh builder's bag? You could sling it from your front loader :D

hi ben
I want to be able to fairly easily move my wood to nearer the house , so boxes rather than loose in a heap.
builders bags won't last to long in sun light , also hold a bit of water I think ?
the spud boxes r good but dear and as there outside for a time to season the wood then the box itself is rotting too ,
so my ideal plan is steel boxes / crates , bit like the parts bin thing u see in factories but the same size as a spud box , with mesh sides .
but these will be expensive to build .

To season our wood, we build a stack then strap a couple of tin sheets over it - keeps pretty dry.

I have a 20X30 shop out back that I use. I have a coal and wood burning stove in it, and it keeps it nice and cozy. When the weather gets below 25F I get some coal in and that makes the difference, I can work in my shirt sleeves if I choose. I try to keep her about 68. The past couple of weeks I rebuilt my son's 22RE toyota motor, in her. My wife call's it my man cave.
How many Dexta's do you have now Jerry? That looks like a nice project.
