I am looking for a seat cushion for my Dexta. This one:

http://secure.ssbtractor.com/cgi-bin/qu ... ct=MFSEATC

looks as if it might fit, but I am not sure. Yeah, it is a MF. Does anyone have any advice on where to get a quality seat cushion? Do you think this one will fit a Dexta?
How was the original secured to the seat pan?
Thanks,
Terry

Looks very similar, shame about the colour and the red stripe

The seat pan has two "D" shaped holes in it and the seat cushion has a strap that goes through them to fix it in place.

We have a number of suppliers here in England and I bought a new one for Dotty. It makes a great difference to the way she drives. Bit like sitting on a small "Super Six" as you sit high and "over" the steering wheel.

Hey that looks the same as mine, same colour but without the back rest. Mine's all worn out and falling to bits. I didn't know the grey with red stripe is MF. What colour is a Dexta cushion (or is that a silly question)?

I think it would be gray with a blue stripe, instead of red. Not sure, I have not yet bought a cushion. I don't mind spending $50 or $60 for a high quality seat cushion but without looking and feeling of it I am afraid it would not be what I want.

Dexta and Major cushions are blue! I am certainly impressed with the new one I bought.

I bought a cushion some months back for my Dexta through Sparex. Although I was initially disappointed with the back rest mounting material which is plastic, I have learnt to accept it. Those earlier back rests had a metal mounting piece, not sure if some suppliers still supply those. Be interesting if someone could confirm that.

As per the colour mine is blue with grey piping. In hind site I should have ordered a blue with orange piping.

Kind regards
Mervyn

Brian,
Where did you get your seat cushion?
Thanks,

M.Hipperson, Downham Market. He is a dealer in s/h tractor parts and an honest one. He sells parts on E-bay too. They run the post office so he is quite happy to send parts anywhere by mail.

Hi all,

My Dexta seat cushion is blue with orange stripe, bought a few years ago for £15 at one of the tractor shows. I still see them at shows now but the price has gone up, the best price I've seen lately is £30.

Regards,

Barry

P.S. a mate of mine bought himself a seat cushion for his MF 35x and left it in the bag in his tractor shed, when he went in a few weeks later the mice had totally destroyed both seat cushion and back rest, he bought a second set and now keeps them in the house.

Hi James

Please could you tell me whether the stiff backing of your back rest that the bolts/screws are attached to is steel or hard plastic. I know the original backing plate of the Dexta was steel and if I'm not mistaken could be adjusted up or down although very little.

Kind regards
Mervyn

The seat on my dexta is not deep enough for the back rest, the back rest backing is made of plastic but it wouldnt be hard to make a new backing plate out of steel to get more height adjustment.

Thanks for your response James. I take it that you would prefer a back rest that supports higher up the back. Sure that suspension seat looks very comfortable.

Good luck, regards

Mervyn

On my Dexta and one of my Super Dexta, I replaced the seat bucket with a suspension seat with back.

Here in the US, Dexta tractors are seldom at tractor pulls and almost non-existent at shows. Collecters gravitate to John Deere, Minniapolis Moline, Allis Chalmers, etc Parade tractors. :?

Most in US consider the Fordsons Dexta & Major, the Massey Ferguson and Fords as work tractors

Which is good for me. I want a tractor to work, and the Dexta can do that with few obvious faults; one largely and routinely a sticking gear shifter :x and second no factory power steering option :( and no third fault trend.

I replaced the whole seat

The cushions that I found were all quite expensive if they were original, I decided to replace the entire seat. This is what I bought:

Not what I really wanted, but I still have the original seat if I ever decide to restore the tractor.

Thats the seat i have on my dexta, make sure you bolt the base plate on far enough back so you can get clearance on the steering wheel, also make sure you set the spring rate up correctly so it isnt too soft or too hard.

the suspension seat shown above, if you dnt mount the seat back enough you will have a problem getting off the seat. It is very comfy when you go over a bump instead of a jolt up the spine you just float over it with this seat.

Here is a URL to a similar seat I bought:

http://www.tractorsupply.com/webapp/wcs ... ue&cFlag=1

Believe the seats are made in Turkey.

Our AgriSupply and TractorSupply stores carry them, and occasially they have a sale to match the price online (you must add shipping to that online price). I buy them and have them on four tractors.

WayneB, Tractor Supply is where I got my seat. They had free shipping and 10% off of online orders, so I got it delivered to my house for $78.65. 8)

That's a good Deal

Better than the store price, no tax on internet purchases.

Good deal 8)

In Tennessee, you have to pay tax for online purchases if there is a brick and mortar store in the state. So, I did have to pay tax but that was less than the 10% discount for a online order. Plus it was delivered.
