oil pressure

Post by sky blue »

have just put an oil pressure guage on tractor instead of light
,now when i run tractor pressure is at 50 but when i drop rev to idle the pressur dropes
down to around about10/15when i rev tractor rev will go up to 50again
, im thinking this is normal could someone confirm this or should it be higher than 15 at idle , there is no blow
on breather tube and nothing coming from dip stick hole hot or cold, im thinking i should have just left oil light on
instead of bloody guage,

What grade oil are you using?

Consensus on here is that for UK we should be using 30W (and not multigrade).

Have a search on here for oil pressure, particularly for Brian's posts, as he has made quite a study on oils for our old ladies.

thanks for the reply bensdexta, im using 30 weight monograde iwas using morriss but
was unable to get it last oil change and used classic car oil 30 w thinking this was the same,
i have tried the oil pressure in search but nothing seem to relate to my problem, ineed to know
after a good work out with engine good and hot at least 3hrs of constant work
[ what is the oil pressure reading at idle] on others tractors
i know with light it will come on at 7p, so this only relates to those using
a gauge with the numbers,

rod bearings, main bearings, oil pump, remember it is a 50 years + tractor, I put a gauge on mine, normally it drops to 40 pounds at idle

I have been using 30w and adding some of lucas oil additive. The operating manual states 40 pounds of oil pressure

just an up date on oil pressure, i changed the oil as bensdexta had had sugested
i had 30w classic for petrol cars, as this was all
i could find in my part of the world in 30w, in her, ihad a 20 liter drum of 15/40 for disel machinery it had caterpillar lable
,[ i know] this had come from an auction in scotland i had got this from a dealer a couple of year ago but never used it
so ithought id give it a go , well little old blue seems to love it the oil pressure is at 50 on startup, after a good hard work out
shes holds at 50 and at idle tick over at 8 shes at 30psi , i have been working her hard for past week or so and she is at the same, hope
this holds like this  ,just googled the cat site the oil if anyone is intersted is caterpillar deo 15/40 / 3E9848 20L DRUM,
