Help with identification
Morning,
Ive recently bought a Dexta that is in need of a bit of work but it seems a bit of a bittsa and im wondering if one of you knowledgeable people can steer me in the right direction. The tin work is an assortment and the wings aren't even Fordson but the Serial number seems to indicate its a Dexta (from guide on Tractor Data) but it has the Super Dexta pump and some of the hydraulics ?
Serial No: 09C732617
Casting No's: Gearbox: 957E 7005 also: P21H ?
Engine: 37111310 there is also a: L272 and at the bottom back: GKN1372 1C
Im afraid ive not been able to locate the clutch, hydraulic top that people talk about, might need further investigation.
Left hand trumpet looks like it has: 957E 4013B
Any help appreciated.

Re: Help with identification
Georgey48,
Hopefully the following will help you in identifying the year of Dexta you have.
From my information that I have your tractor serial number dates it to Jan 1963.
The gearbox casting code dates from Dec 21st 1962.
You need to get the casting codes from the rear trumpets as in below photos to date them. These are the same as your gearbox casting code which will start with a letter and be either a single or double number followed by a letter. If you can get me them I will date them for you. I am unsure about your engine but you find with many tractors these have been replaced over the years as mine has. My tractor is a very early Dexta but the engine dates to 1965.
Gearbox casting code.

Left Axle trumpet casting code.

Right Axle trumpet casting code.

Regards
Charlie

Re: Help with identification
Georgey48,
Your trumpets date from Oct 4th and 18th 1962. Looks like you have a genuine Dexta and not a bitser as all the casting codes date from late 1962 and serial number from Jan 1963. As I said earlier I wouldnt worry about the engine as many were replaced.

Charlie.

Re: Help with identification
H8F is 8 June 1961.
957E-7005 is 1958.
1449822 is 1960.
We need more casting codes but it looks like a bitsa.

Re: Help with identification
Thanks for the Quick Response
The Left Hand side of the Rear Axle has what Looks Like957E A25?D T3
R/h Side of Axle is 957E A26D
On the Rear Axle Casing on R/H Side (Hydraulics) Is Also Marked A26D.
Is it Possible to find Out if this Tractor was Ever Road Registered Using the Serial no or Engine No.
Thanks Again
Re: Help with identification
To find if it's been road registered you'll need all the possible casting codes plus the serial and engine numbers.
The codes you say now suggest January 1960. It looks like a bitsa, so it might be more difficult to register. You should find codes on the top cover, bell housing and block as well. Dates are also stamped on the steering box and starter and dynamo. The injector pump also has a number stamped on it.

I found some more Numbers as You Suggested
Starter is Lucas 26143B 6 5 M45G CW84 12v
Injector Pump is SPE 3A60S? 593
On Bellhousing R/H Side Behind and Below Where Starter is Bolted on is957E 7505C T1 H6F
Below Seat on Top Cover of Hyd is T6 P31?
Dynamo Has Been Changed to Alternator so Nothing There. Can't See No on Steering Box Without Stripping a Bit.
Re: Help with identification
The injector pump number is just a number, SPE-3A 60S 593 is the type of pump.
H6F is 6 June 1961, are you sure you've seen all of the serial number?
P31x is 31 December but the year is the last letter behind the 31 (not an X!).
Your starter probably says 6 5x?
Look for a casting code on the block behind the injector pump.

Re: Help with identification
Hi
On which list you can date an engine serial number? I’ve always learned dexta engine numbers can’t be used for dating. Was I mis informed may be?
When I assume the 957e 7005 is a mould number all casting dates are quite close actually.
Dating auxiliary items like starters dynamos fuel pumps etc doesn’t work. That are parts which would be easily be exchanged in maintenance.

Re: Help with identification
I know small parts aren't reliable, but they give an idea of what has happened to them. Engine numbers start from 1400000 and follow the serial numbers until the Super Dexta.
Serial numbers started with 957E-001, and continued until the 09A prefix was used, so 957E-7005 would be an early one, but it can't be on a much later casting.

Re: Help with identification
There is a Large No.2 behind the Pump and Below it there's a casting in Rectangular shape with kind of Half Moon type Shape on each end and also in the Middle of the long sides,Top and Bottom. The Inscription on it is Hard to make Out.The 1st Half looks like MON then a Larger 0 in the Middle with what looks like CYI on the 2nd Half.If that makes Any Sense.Billy26F5 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 04, 2020 10:13 pmThe injector pump number is just a number, SPE-3A 60S 593 is the type of pump.

Re: Help with identification
This MON0CYL is like an EnFo on the top cover, a marking that all castings of that type have. This code is above that and would be between the engine number and the lone 2 in height, near the middle. It will have one letter (month) and two or three numbers (date and year).
You might need to clean the starter more, as Lucas stamped the last two digits of the year.

Re: Help with identification
Had another look at the Starter and it ends in 6. 58. Would that be June 1958. ?
