Cheap Proofmeters

On my old Dexta I replace the defunct proofmeter with a Massey Ferguson Proofmeter and it still works like a charm eight years later.
On my Super Dexta I bought a Dexta Proofmeter, obviously cheap, and it has failed already. Still counts hours, but needle sits against peg. Both from similar source.
Same scenario on my thousand series and cheap tachometer, it last 93 hours, and my S Dexta less. I have an old faded meter to put back in. Cheap thing didn't even last two years.
Replaced my 1000 series with a FNH part, and it works great. I guess cheap parts are made -- what -- CHEAPLY?
