Butler rear mudguard lights.

Just interested if any member has bought the Butler mudguard light fittings lately. I purched a left and right fitting some years ago but have been gathering dust over the years. I was horrified when I removed the lenses to find the contacts for the lamp bulb were just blobs of solder and not the common brass contact as per the norm with any electrical bulb holder. I realize these are not OEM standard but surely Sparex have some sort of quality control.
My other observation is that the fitting has three leads, a Red, a Blu and a Black, I take it that the Black is the earth lead? My other question is why does the light fitting have to hav a double filiment bulb? I'm finding it difficult in this developing country of ours to find the genuine bulb holders. :scratchhead:
Any assisistance will be appreciated.
Mervyn.

Three wires suggest that it’s set up for tail and brake. Possibly requires an offset-pin bulb.

Thank you for you reply Old Hywel, the bulbs that came with the fitting are only single filament and the pins are not offset.I must take a look at the wiring diagram and see what is shown there. Take care!

It doesn't take much to wire in a switch to operate brake lights when you put your foot on the brake pedals. If you intend using it on the road then it will benefit you, the driver of the vehicle following you and the police/insurance! We have come a long way from the 1950's thinking in motor vehicles and to be safe is of the utmost.

Take a look at the bottom of the (6th) Announcements section (WIKI) and there is an article there I wrote on upgrading your Dexta electrics, this may help.
Cheers

Jerry,

the folder with the manuals has been removed in the past before we took over the site. If you can email the doc I will put it back online.

I did setup the rearlights as tail light and indicator lights.
