Super Dexta Hydraulic leak

Post by BillBlue »

Hello, My super Dexta developed an Hydraulic oil leak from the seal at the auxiliary service control plate. I have removed it and can see the gasket has failed and the o rings need replacing. I have ordered the bits, but what I am unsure of is that the manual states their are 8 rings yet I have only 7 places as I seem to have an extra port? I will try to attach a photo of the top plate, but not sure how as yet. I would be grateful for any input as to whether I only use 7 rings,
many thanks in advance, Bill

Lift off the old gasket, I think you might find the eighth one under it.

Bill,

Did order a full kit? It should also have the o-rings for the plugs on the side of the unit. They will fail when they are old.
Fordson Super Major New Performance
County Super 4 built on the Fordson Super Major
Selene built on the Fordson Super Major New Performance with Silvant winch

Hi, yes I got the full kit. There was no recess for the 8th o ring on it so I went with 7. I looked at replacing the plugs but having removed the roll pins they did not want to come out, so I erred on the side of caution and left them alone.
Anyway having put it back together, I have been using the Dexta this afternoon with the transport box on, and so far all is working ok and no leeks :D :D
Next I will put my 31/2 ton winch on it and see how it goes winching out a few trees I felled a few weeks ago. I usually use my JD for these jobs but the torsional drive has failed, so the old girl is back into service for a while.
I think I may tackle the lights next as it seems to have the original headlights but they are not connected( in fact there's no sign of any wires past the starter motor).
Thanks all for your help and advice
Bill
