New thermostat sender different to original.

Post by Mervyn Spencer »

Hi Folk,
I bought a replacement thermostat from Sparex around 2005 and have never used it as my original one was still functional. However yesterday I pulled out the new thermstat and the sender unit it totally different and although the nut fits and tightens up the part of the sensor that passes thru the nut does not tighten and coolant leaks out. My original sensor still seals perfectly.

There's a case of not making something to the correct design and failing as a result. Repro parts can be very bad in that sense. I recommend you look out for an original temp gauge if you need a replacement.

Thanks Sandy, you are right re the correct design. No idea where they got this design from. I did note the difference those years back but did not take to much note as the original one still is good. I will keep an eye open for the correct part and keep the replacement as an ornament.

I see that there are new thermostats around with the original sensor, but Sparex are still selling the same one that was incorrect for my Dexta. I think they need to correct that issue of theirs. Unless other members have had no issues fitting the Sparex guage?

I think you'll find all suppliers needing to sort their parts for not matching the Ford spec. I think it's better to find good second hand parts if possible.
