Foolishly I messed up the timiming of my pump by loosening the three bolts to adjust the timing and turning the pump nut, now I get a bit of smoke but not wanting to start  . Anyone out there who can give me some idea where to start to re align the pump.

Look for the two spill marks on the flywheel behind the inspection cover, when the second one lines up, time the injector pump (timing of 20º BTDC, make sure no. 1 cylinder is on compression). The first spill mark at 26º BTDC is for pneumatic governor pumps.

Thanks for your response Billy, I am aware of the 26 and 20 degree spill lines and those on the pump. I had the tractor running perfectly for a while and then for some reason she would not start. What got into my head  I don't know and took the pump off and messed with the 3 bolts. Could I be correct to say that I have upset the phasing of the pump?

Hi,

You’ve upset the injection timing probably.

Phasing is between the element of the pump and doesn’t get upset as long as you don’t change inside the pump.

I’ve no experience with timing a dexta, but it shouldn’t be to complicated with help of the manual.

Turn the engine till no. 1 cylinder is on compression (remove oil filler cap and see both valves closed) then find the spill mark at 20º BTDC, align pump marks and cover up. Then see if the engine starts. If it doesn't start, you'll have to look elsewhere.

Good news, with a little help from my Injector specialist business I was able to get my Dexta started again. I still can't remember what I did to mess up it is nearly a year ago since my delemmer. Yesterday after another chat with my buddy at the injector business, I went home removed the pump from the tractor set up a sort of drip line from a bottle with some diesel in it suspended from a hook and fed into the pump. Now the trick was to turn the pump gear in front until a bead of fuel appeared at the number one port, I did a number of turns of the gear and noticed how the other ports released fuel. Once I was happy about number one port I released the three bolts on the front gear and turned the pump cam until the lines lined up.Tightened up the 3 bolts and removed my drip line, fitted the pump back onto the tractor bled the system attempted to start and away she fired. What joy to the ears :D
