Dexta Engine Number

Post by GM7PBB »

Hi, New to the forum, excellent information on here :-) We have a 1964 Dexta 09D915393 (pump P4696) but we can not figure the engine number out, the number on the flat plate normally starts with either a 14 or 16 Ours is "19B4734 C" Looked everywhere and then some to see what the engine id from or out off :-) wonder if anyone has the same engine number starting with 19.

Thanks in advance

If your Dexta is 1964, the engine number will start 15xxxxx, (16xxxxx for Super Dexta engines), the number is on a raised rectangle on the block just beneath the front exhaust manifold port. A P4696 suggests an NP Super Dexta, but this needs verifying. Some pics would help.

I think you might want to clean the area a bit better, as you might end up finding something different. There's a casting code a bit beneath the engine number but near the middle rather than near the front. It has a month letter and two or three digit number for the date and year. As for pics try this:

Hi Sandy. Thanks for the help.

Other numbers on the engine are "GKN 1523" & "37111280" and a "5" in a circle.
We have looked everywhere to match the engine number with no success.

Thanks

This could well be a replacement block, that number is not one I've ever seen either. Try and find [mon(0)cyl] cast on the block beneath 37111280, it's not the usual number, though, Davie has 37111310 instead. If it doesn't have [mon(0)cyl] cast on it's definitely a replacement.

Hi Sandy. just had another look on the dexta block, [mon(0)cyl] is there under the 37111280. the head has the same [mon(0)cyl] interesting.

I think you have a replacement block, but I don't know of any information on what Ford stamped on them. It could be a bit like Major industrial engines that have a Sxxxxxx number, and that was what replacement blocks got too.

Hi Sandy. Thank you for all the info and help, very much appreciated. As you say looks like the block was replaced at some point.

Thanks again.
