What lamps are used for the oil pressure and charging lamps?
Hi Folk its me again. Please can someone highlight what lamps/bulbs are used in the oil pressure and ignition holders. My old lamp holder lamps are baynet connection and are too big to fit my new holders, and bisides that they are not the baynet type fitting

Re: What lamps are used for the oil pressure and charging lamps?
Hi Sandy, thank you for your reply. I had a good look at the sockets and even pulled on the centre wire to see what was lurking further down in the socket, but found there are no threads, no grooves for the baynet pins to secure into just plain smooth sides. Could this be another after market issue. My other issue is that no lamps were supplied and the chances of finding them here in South Africa are super slim. I need to look through my invoices and see who supplied me the loom/harness. I was wondering if any member might have recently purchased a harness which is complete. It serves me right to have taken so long to get my Dexta restored.

If the top edge of the bulb holder is slightly rounded in then you need the screw in type bulb, the top edge of the holder acts as a thread for the bulb

Thank you John for your help, looking at the picture you can faintly see a raised surface representing the thread.

Looking at your picture I would say it's a 3w screw in bulb

this looks like a screw version: https://www.autosparks.co.uk/electrical ... ingle-wire
It's difficult to see, but could be a bajonet one.

Thanks folk, the link you posted Mathias is what I have identified on my holders. Now to find some lamps, I found the invoice and noted the harness was purchased thru Sparex South Africa, hold your breath on 24 August 2006

Be careful what type of bulb holder you order! For the Ignition warning light it should have two wires insulated from the chassis. As one side of the bulb goes to the live terminal of the battery and the other side goes to the Dynamo output (So that when the Dynamo output voltage rises to equal or higher than the battery voltage [to give the charge] there is no difference in voltage across the bulb so it goes out! The oil pressure lamp is fed from the live ignition switch and the other side is earthed when the oil pressure switch closes when the oil pressure rises on starting.
Hope this helps

Good day Jerry,
Thank you for the heads up, the harness that I have was bought from Sparex here in Durban RSA and I trust it is okay. To me those advertised online all look the same. Sure I will look out for what you have cautioned about. Still a little bit premature for the harness at this stage.
Kind regards
Mervyn.
