Has anyone had difficulty getting their sump strainer gasket to seal?
I’m on my third attempt, I’ve put it together dry, I’ve put it together with hylomar, and last attempt I’ve tried it with a smear of grease, with a new gasket each time but every time it starts to leak after a few days. Any suggestions?

Look for a scrape in the surfaces, you could also try other sealing methods. Ensure you fit it tight enough.

I normally use Permatex no2 the non hardening one. It has never failed my yet on any of my restorations.

Re: Sump strainer gasket
Do you use the permatex no2 on its own or smeared onto the gasket?

Re: Sump strainer gasket
Depends on the scenario. If I think the surface is good enough its good on its own, otherwise a smear on the gasket never does any harm in my opinion
