V5 Chassis number. Is it the same as the serial number?

I've just got a V5 for my Dexta.
The V5 shows the correct make and model.
It shows the correct reg (or at least it shows the reg which was painted on the mudguards when I bought it).
It has the correct date of first registration (related to the casting dates).
But the "chassis number" on the V5 is made up of letters and numbers and is nothing like a '957E***' serial number of the tractor itself.
Can anyone confirm that this is normal, please?

Hi,
What is the serial number running vertically down the left-hand flange at the front of the clutch housing where it bolts to the engine? See the item on serial nos in the 'General' section of the main fordsontractorpages. Not all Dexta serial nos start 957E...., eg 1962 Dexta serial nos start 09B...
This number should correspond with the V5 chassis number.
If you need further advice, perhaps you can quote the first digits of your V5 number and the number read off the clutch housing flange.
All the best
Ben

Hi Ben,
That's what I feared.
The V5 says "Fordson Dexta" for make. (Blank for model).
The V5 says "A762**/1**" for VIN. (Where "*" is a number.)
The tractor serial number stamped on the clutch housing is 957E52***.
The date of first registration on the V5 corresponds well to the casting dates on the tractor.
Regards,
Ian.

Hi,
Is the V5 chassis number recorded as being the same as the engine number by any chance?
Is the V5 chassis number the same as the engine number on the block?
On my Dexta the old buff reg doc recorded both chassis and engine numbers as being the same, that is same as the engine number on the block. I believe this was done quite often in the days of buff reg docs, which of course aren't valid now.
If the V5 engine number is correct I believe you should be able to confirm the ID of your tractor.
All the best,
Ben
