COmpression?

For those who haven't yet split a Dexta, it's a lot easier than I thought it would be. I put it off over the winter; cold being a good reason.
It took 2.5 hours to split. The clutch was dragging and the reason was a missing split pin allowing one of the three levers to lose its fulcrum point.
The thing that concerns me is that i can turn the engine over by hand quite easily using the flywheel. I should have thought at 17:1 compression ratio I shouldn't be able to do that. It's normally hard to start but it doesn't breathe much.
Any thoughts?
