Ford 50th Anniversary 1968

Chaps,

We are looking for a picture of the decal that Ford used on their tractors for this anniversary. It showed a Ford model "F" and a Ford 5000. The colour was sepia with white lettering.

The design was used on leaflets and on the Ford magazine as well as a decal on the pre-Ford Force tractors.

I have a copy somewhere but can't locate it and all I have is a very fuzzy scan.

Goodmorning Brian,

I have been searching on the internet, but it seems to be a rare decal, because I can't find it... :(

I hope someone will be able to help you.

Thanks Pascal, I found a very small one in some US literature but it was very indistinct. One of those things that you saw hundreds of times and it went by unnoticed because it was so common.

It was on all the "X" series in 1968 up to July but when the "Y" series came out it was quietly dropped. Suppose they did not want the buying public to be reminded of all the problems and made that series start afresh.

Brian,

I will check my friend Kees, while he has a lot of Ford magazines.
This will take some time.

No luck Brian,

Amongst his pictures there were non of the decal. He also could not remember it at all.
Was it only used in the UK?

Henk,
No, it was world wide. I got the small picture from a leaflet in the US but it does not blow up clearly.

We will just keep looking.

That is the British road tax Gerhard, the decal was far larger and went just about where you put the arrow.

It was sepia and white and showed two tractors, one model"F" and a 5000 of the era.

Gerhard,

In the UK, all road using vehicles must pay an annual tax, called 'the road fund license'.
Each year to show this has been paid, the vehicle displays a round paper disc, either in the front window or in a special holder. This is what you can see in the picture.
It is the same thing that you do with your vehicle number plates.

Luckily, in the UK, vintage vehicles and agricultural vehicles do not have to pay the fee, but you must still display the paper disc if you are on the road.

Chaps,

Many thanks for keeping looking. The decal is for Barry and Dawn so the article is about our quest.

I managed to get a couple of the 60 year anniversary ones in mint condition but the 50 year ones are elusive. I found a very old and tiny picture in the US but have found nothing here just yet.
