1967 Ford 4000 11amp or 22amp

Post by Ben 26 »

How do I tell which I have as I might have to buy a new dynamo to run the tractormeter as I understand it runs off that

Why did they do 11 and 22 amp?

22 amp regulators and dynamos came out in July 1968 on the Ford Force tractors.

Regulators should have 11 or 22 stamped on the metal.

Dynamo identification is easy. Sealed end plates = 11 amp, open end plates = 22 amp.

You can put an 11 amp regulator on a 22 amp dynamo but not a 22 amp regulator on an 11 amp dynamo.

(Just showing off! The colours of the wires on the regulator go, from the left as you look at it, Brown, Brown, Green/Brown, Yellow/Brown, Yellow/Brown, Black. Remembered from 1965 :D )

Checked the regulator and its a 22amp - Dynamo has an open end but it hasn't got the availabilty to fit the drive unit so I will get a new dynamo and drive unit - do you think someone has changed this over to 22amp as it a 1967 pre force model?

I would suspect so. The 22 amp would have been more readily available in later years.
