4610 Engine rebuild

my 4610 is long overdue for an engine rebuild and I am hoping to start it in the next few weeks but have heard various opinions as to whether these engines are fitted with liners or not.
I notice the overhaul kits available are supplied with liners but I am unsure if they are necessary. The bores are not bad at all and i am wondering if honing and new rings would be enough. The reason for the failue was the crank which needs a regrind.
This is a 1984 model with unknown hours ( I can't remember what is on the clock and it wasn't working when I purchased anyway) and I don't want to regret cutting corners later as this tractor is used for some heavy topping and chain harrowing on some steep ground not to mention hauling round bales up some equally steep roads.

Some had liners from new, others did not.

The liner helps/cures cavitation problems and water leaks into the bores which can develop on those engines. There were also problems in metal quality in most of the range which led to hard spots in the bores. Liners eliminate those problems.

The best person to talk to would be an engine boring specialist who can see the bores, check them for "out of round" and wear.

Thanks Brian, that is good enough for me. It can have liners fitted. I don't want to spend money on a partial overhaul and waste it. I would prefer to spend more and at least have a reasonable chance of a few years trouble free use. The overhaul kits are not that expensive especially compared with a recon engine from New Holland even allowing for machining costs.
