Power Steering on Ford 3000 4wd

Post by Jeff4wd »

HI

I own a Ford 3000 4wd which I would like to fit power steering onto. The addon kits that are available will not work because of the size of the 4wd front axle.

I was wondering whether the Ford 4000 addon kit would work as it only has steering assisted on one side like the Fordson Majors, or does it have to be connected to both sides.

Thanks for any information.

Jeff

Jeff, :needpics: any chance of some pictures?Ford 4000 powersteering(power assisted steering)was only on the left side. I see no reason why Ford 4000 power steering could not be addapted to fit a Ford 3000 (ie , make it fit.)using only the left side droparm from the steering box.TSG.Image

Thanks for your reply. I have now uploaded (I hope) 2 photos of the Ford 3000.

Thanks again

Nice tractor Jeff,I would like to have a 3000 or 4000 with 4wd too  .Is it a County conversion?Might be more difficult to convert to power steering than I thought, not just from getting around the front diff, but by getting the Ackermann angles correct. :eyes: Anyone else with any ideas?TSG.

Hi

Glad you like the tractor. It is an italian conversion, the plate on it says Palazzani. The company is still trading, they have a website, they now make high lift platforms for the building industry. I sent them an email and they still have parts available for the conversion.

I think you're probably right, it won't be as easy as first thought.

Thanks for taking the time to look into my problem.

Thanks
Jeff

Jeff,I was also wondering how did County do the power sterring on the County 4000-Four? Has anyone got pictures of the steering on a 4000-Four? :eyes: I wish my 3000 had 4wd, but over here you pay silly money for County conversions, way OTT, and its probably worn out. :stress: TSG.

Hi TSG

Don't know how County worked their power steering on 4000-Four, don't know of anyone who has got one.

Will try and look into it.

Thanks
Jeff

My Ford 4000 4x4 has the left side power steering assist. No steer arm on R/S & tie rod.

Counted 5 of these remaining in USA and 3 have broken left axle steering knuckle. The bolts loosen. I kept tightening and tighening, but found a solution to the problem.
These are fitted with Schindler front axles (metric)
Solution:
NORDLOCK washers. Installed them on the knuckles and it fixed the problem.

I have a loader mounted and the tractor has awesome traction.

Seems to me you have 2 choices. Install a steering gearbox PS unit that steers to both knuckles or:

Use the Hydraulic assist unit off the 4000 and create a set of lower steering knuckles and cross tie rod to knuckles.

Hi

Thanks for your continued interest in my problem!

I think the best solution would be to fit a steering column power steering system, problem is I cannot find any of these second hand in this country!

The problem with the Ford 4000 system is the diff on my 3000 is big and the tie rod would have to go underneath and it would be very low to the ground. We've got pretty rough terrain around here, and it would probably catch. How did Schindler get round this problem on your Ford?

There are some manufacturers of power steering conversion kits in Turkey. Here is one of them:
http://www.powersteeringkit.com/

They have hydrostatic kits for 3000, where you do not need to add a tie rod:
http://www.powersteeringkit.com/hydrostatic.html

I do not know more about it, throw them a line on:
