I do not ever remember a metal ring but the other bits are right.

aye up brian

thanks for the reply

found someone near me who also has a 4000 all be it a later force one and had a look at there air cleaner , that metal ring should be attached to the top of inner cup so at sometime has broken off , also that ring and the inner cup doesn't fit very well on the lip of the outer cup so drops down and rests on the bottom .

one more question how do you get the upper part of the filter out to clean ( the bit with the wire gorse in it ) ? tried to get out but won't budge, don't want to rive and chew on it .

thanks wayne

Hi Wayne,

The inner cup should be pressed down to sit in the dent in the outer cup. This seems impossible since the inner cup is broken.

The upper part (steel wool) is not removable from its container. Put the container in diesel overnight, or use a parts cleaner if available, and blow dry "backwards" with compressed air.
