Hi
How much of the Ford 5000 x series and y series engines are compatiable with each other?
I know the bore is different(4.2 and 4.4 inches), but what about the stroke, head, timing, injectors/injector pump, etc etc.
I have an alltogether 6x that needs probably only rings and gaskets, and a stripped down and left to rust

6y engine.
I would prefer to go for the 6y engine, but don't know if it's all there!

Both the 5000x and 5000y both have 4.2 inch stroke.(Unlike the 4000x with 4.2 inch and 4000y with 4.4 inch store.)Any pictures Kev?

"Increased power from the new model Ford 5000 diesel engine has been achieved by increasing the cylinder bore diameter, introducing a new cylinder head with modified porting, a new camshaft and new pistons, new injection pump and new injectors". Quote from the Ford Manual Service supplement on the introduction of the Ford Force, June 1968.
It goes on to say that although the bore size is now the same as the 4000, the pistons are not the same as the piston crown height is greater.
The con rods also changed along with the head gasket and sump.

Hey Kev, your wife must have bought her a new horse. I remember you saying that every time you wanted another tractor she wanted another horse.

Nice looking tractor.
See ya

To be honest with you, she dose'nt know about this one yet, it will probably just turn up at home one day!!
and to be honest again, she just put down one of her horses last month, so the tractor/horse tally will be running at 3 tractors/1 horse
