3000Y not lifting

Post by Pascal »

Hi guys,

I visited a friend today. He has problems with his Ford 3000Y. The lift is not working: it's not lifting.
Several meccanics looked at it and changed oil and filters. Unfortunately it's still not lifting.

Do you have any ideas?
Best regards,
Pascal

Fordson's don't leak oil, they are just marking their territory.

Could be many things Pascal.

The "Y" series had only two filters and both need the lift removed to change them. One is the suction filter right in the bottom of the rear axle and is a real pain to get to and only needs washing, the other is the return filter, so what filters they have changed?

The hydraulic pump will need bleeding, this could be the problem.

The oil should be 20/30W, Universal oil or Ford 134. If it is too heavy then the pump will not get it from the rear axle. Even the 20/30W would sometimes need diluting with Fords Blending Fluid or 4.5lt of Kerosene, which ever is cheaper, :D both are Ford recommended cures.

Once we know oil is at the pump then we can look at things like a stuck unload valve.

Hi,
To avoid having to empty containers of oil into the backend when bleeding the pump, try connecting a hose onto the tipping pipe directly into the backend and leave the engine running for a while, this will allow you to do something else while waiting.
Check lift operation from time to time, to eliminate lift shudder.

Mike J

Hi guys,

Yesterday I heard the lift is working again.
When replacing the clutch and removing the hydraulic pump, apparently some little ring was not mounted correctly..or not mounted at all.

Thank you all for your advises!
Best regards,
Pascal
