Piston standout on 4610 engine?

Hi there,this question is on belhalf of a friend who is currently rebuilding a ford 550 digger (4610) engine-he had to replace the block due to it going porous beside the camshaft oil gallery-anyway he sourced a 2nd hand block and has began to build the engine up again-and he noticed the pistons protruding from the block surface by 0.30mm. Is this normal? Any help/adviced much appreciated

There were a number of changes over the years of the block height/piston/piston pin position. It would be best to find the engine details/age/numbers. There were also different thickness of head gaskets to go with the different blocks.

Has your replacement block got a star on the front corner above the oil filter and if so, has your old block?

The pistons should not protrude by much above the surface of the block but your best bet is to ask your local dealer who will have all the relevant service letters. But you must know the dates and details from both blocks.
