Kev's 5000-Front axle

Have been sitting in the shed tonight looking at the 5000, planning the engine removal.
Had planned to remove tombstone from engine and swing tombstone away from engine and front axle. A frame will still be hooked in the sump, so will hold axle in location.
Looking at axle tonight, I doubt wether axle will slide off tombstone/axle pin.
Looks like it will be differcult to move tombstone and axle away in one peice.

Anybody done a 5000 front axle before, and got any tips

What I didn't say last post was that the front pivot pin is seized in, therefore was unable to get it out, and front axle separated from tractor.
Anyhow, decided that as this 5000 is only a parts-doner tractor, and it's the engine that I'm after, I ended up putting a 9 inch cut off disc through the A frame. Tombstone and axle then came away no worries. If needs be, can always weld A frame up again.
Next step is to remove engine, then park rest of tractor in the other shed.

I am sorry that I can't help you on this one. I don't know much about the 1000-series.
I thenk they are great tractotrs to look at...epscially the Y-series.

Are you putting the engine in another 5000?

hiya kev, my suggestion would have been to peg front axle in tombstone and wheel engine and axle away from trans, then unbolt tombstone from engine \and axle and tombstone one unit, rear end another and engine free.

Was unable to seperate tombstone from engine without moving tombstone forward. Due to the shape of the timing cover, the tombstone must move forward away from engine approx 30mm before being able to raise engine or lower axle.
With the A frame still located in the sump recess due to the 'rusted in place' axle pivot pin, my only option was to cut the A frame. I then removed the engine from the rear transmission.
