M&W turbo conversion kit Ford 8000

Post by Martijn »

Hey people,

Our Ford 8000 tractor is fitted with an M&W turbo conversion kit.
These kits were sold in the 60's and '70's to farmers on various makes of tractor to give
them more power. After the overhaul of the engine, the turbo leaks oil to the air intake ports.
So now the turbo needs refurbishing also. Does anybody know what make these turbo's are.
There's à little plate on it with M&W written on it, but that's not the make of the turbo itself.
I need to know the make of it to get it overhauled by specialists.
I hope you guys can help me, please let me know.

Greetings,
Martijn

Won't Turbo repair specialists know what make it is, afterall, that is what they do.
This looks like a good thread for a photo diary.

Hey Kev,

You are right, but I only spoke to some specialists on the phone.
Meanwhile I searched on THE internet and found out the make of
the turbo is Rajay. I never heard of it but it seems to be a fairly common
make. This will ease the search for parts.
If the people from Holland who read this can advise me where to go I would be very
grateful.

Greetings
Martijn

I think Rayjay went out of buisness years ago. They were a popular turbo for aftermarket kits. Any turbo specialist should be able to match it up for a newer model from garret, switzer, ihi, kkk, mitsubishi - there are a lot of turbo manufacturers these days. If its leaking oil into the compressor housiong I think its the seal commonly called as the "piston seal" that needs replacing.
