Kev's 5000 rear axle seal

Post by Kiwi Kev »

Guys
I had to replace the rear axle seal on the 5000, so thought I would take some photos for everyone.
The massive wheel weights.
Image
I wonder how much these things weigh?
Image
I rolled it to where I wanted to store it, and it fell over. Could'nt pick it up, so had to drag it over to the endless chain to be able to stand it up.
Image
Removing the RH axle housing.
Image
ah, that feels better.

Image
The brake disc's.
Image
note the Y shaped spacer to stop the bolts from coming undone.
Image
Close-up of the Y shaped spacer. Aprox 3/8 " thick.

Lifting housing off the axle.
Image
New seal fitted.
Image
Going back together.
Image
Torqueing up the bolts.
Image
Brake disc's again.
Image
Ready for refitting.
Image
Nearly there, just got to push the diff lock lever in.
Image
Wheel weight going back on.
Image
Now, what do I do, oh yer, finish the mudguard repairs.

Great pictures, Kev! Thank you for posting!
Did you find much wear inside the axles?

Where are you going to use this tractor for?

Does it needs much TLC, or is it in pretty good shape?
Best regards,
Pascal

Yes many thanks for the 'heads up' - a very useful set of pictures Kev - much appreciated.

Looks mechanically pretty straight forward but I need to decide if I'm really equipped to do it - cant get it in the barn now I have a large CNC lathe there :)
