you need to remove the plate on the timing case and remove the timing gear.

if you do it carefully you can remove the three bolts that bolt gear to pump with out taking the gear out of mesh with the other gears and knocking the timing out. The pump should have a dowel in so it will only bolt to gear one way.

Thanks Jim. I'll let you know how I get on. Any recommendations for pump refurbishment?

Depends on how compitent you are. Not a bad job to replace the pump unit on the end or take it to a diesel fitter

Almost there. Pump replaced. Not too bad but juggled slightly to resit pump against timing gear, loader arms didn't help. Think I'll send pump off to be refurbed. Need to check wiring diagram as can't remember battery connections to starter which I removed. Will bleed tomorrow and hope returns to usual starting. Kids enjoyed helping so hope to spend time bringing tractor back with them.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

There will be a earth coming from battery to body of starter. A spade terminal going to solenoid on starter and all othere are lives that all go to the big terminal on solenoid.

Thanks again Jim. I poured over the writing diagrams and drew the same conclusion. struggling to bleed the fuel filter and am wondering if I've enough fuel in tank to provide enough head to get the fuel to the top of the filter. I had the drain the tank as shut off valve knackered. only put 10 litres back in.

Getting there!

Thanks, Dave

put more fuel in. Rotary pumps need a decent head of fuel to get primed.

Thanks again.

Hi Dave,

Do you have any pictures of your 4000?
Brian told me they are the best tractors from the 1000-series. :)
Best regards,
Pascal

Fordson's don't leak oil, they are just marking their territory.

I'll get some up this weekend. Been in the Dales all week camping with the kids. Great to see so many old tractors here working on the hay with the good weather.
