hi all, just went to look at a ford 4000, it had a lot of oil comming out
the dipstick on tick over, now is this an automatic rebuild or could this be caused
by something eles, all ideas welcome. the engine seemed ok other than this,
there was a puddle of oil on the ground after a munite or so with the dipstick out,
thanking you sky blue
oil out the dipstick
Re: oil out the dipstick
It might be normal. Some of these tractors 'breathe' fairly hard. Have you tried holding your thumb tightly over the dipstick hole to see if there is much pressure there.
If the seat is wet, sit on your hat, better to have a cool head than a wet arse

Re: oil out the dipstick
I looked at a Leyland 384 last year which had oil right up the dipstick, turned out to be seized and cracking the sump plug revealed gallons of water before oil started to run. Still not sure if it was a frosted block, leaking liner or in through the silencer-less exhaust manifold. If wet it would show white scum when running but it might take a while to churn it.
Hopefully just a bit heavy breather but cracking the sump plug when cold would eliminate the worst
Best of luck with it

Re: oil out the dipstick
Oil out of the dipstick hole is not a problem with any '000nd series tractor. The crank on the 3 cylinder and balancer gears on the 5/6/7000 range throw the oil up and out if you take the dipstick out when running.
Oil from the breather is more worrying but fumes are pretty common too. Heavy breathing, oil leaking from around the rear main and timing cover seal is also an indication of need for running shoes!
