Ford 5600 Steering

Hi All
I have just purchased a Ford 5600 without Power steering . I find the steering is very heavy to turn .I will be replacing the Thrust bearings and bushes etc . I own an older Ford 5000 again without power steering and that tractor steers like a dream so why is the 5600 steering so heavy and 5000 so light is it as I suspect that the spindle bearings and bushes could be worn ?
