Does it have to be a Ransomes finger bar mower?

There are quite a few IH B23 mowers on ebay, which I am told is a good mower.

Although many folk say finger bar mowers are the work of the devil... :scratchhead:

LOL... It was either deal with the devil machine, or do all your cutting with a scythe for the first 150 years since the finger mowers debut.

Given a choice from say 100 years ago, which would you rather do? Dandy Dave!

OK, but the advice I get from my farming friends is shell out for a drum mower or a disc mower.

Problem is a drum mower is a bit to much for a standard Dexta unless someone knows different. Maybe possible with a Super??

And a disc mower is more expensive...... :(

Guess it depends how many acres you want to mow :scratchhead:

I've used a finger bar mower for years. Ransomes - complicated hitch onto tractor and not very good. International B23 A good mower but spares difficult. For the past ten years I have used a MF 60 or MF 623 (Upgrade). Can still get spares and easy to operate. Finger bar mowing made so much easier with an angle grinder to sharpen knives and keep sides of fingers square. You will need an operators manual. Good ones are worth £200. I bought a very cheap one for spares. Light enough for a Dexta.

Many thanks for the info.

Last got knife sections and rivets from local M/F dealer. I think sizes are the same for several makes. V belts off the shelf, again a common size.

I think you are right with the "Grail" comment :D

I have been looking for a mower to replace my Ransomes which I cannot get spares for. I have found a lot of "scrap gold" according to the price and condition but nothing worth buying. I do know of a Swedish finger bar mower and a disc mower but the price is way beyond what I am prepared to pay.
