Hi
Did Ransomes only make machinery for Fordson , or were they also in ferguson colour ?
The reason I'm asking is that I saw a ransomes looking spring tine cultivator but the colour looked grey .

Ransomes made implements for themselves and had contacts with Fordson and Fergusons. They often made some changes to fit the implements for a specified type and brand. You can imagen that a Ferguson cultivator did not need depth wheels. A Major cultivator did need them. Ransomes had a toolbar that could be mounted up as different implements.
I know the cultivator with springs was sold as an Ferguson and as a F(ordson)R(ansomes).
Some implements were made at the Fordson plant, like the PM and EP ploughs. Other were made at Ransomes.

If gray is what the original paint appears to be I would go with it. Over here we had Dearborn equipment that was painted all gray, or sometimes Gray and Red from the Ford factory. Most of this equipment was used with the 9N, 2N, 8N, and later NAA and number series tractors of the fifties. Dandy Dave!

A few weeks ago I notice a picture. It was at the site of Westlake.
http://www.westlakeploughparts.co.uk/16 ... ator-.html
It is the exact same cultivator with a modern top for the 3p hitch with no depth wheels. Brand Ransomes.
I have seen pictures from the model without the springs that say FR, but never one with the springs and the FR brand, so can't be sure.

Ransomes made implements that would work behind other makes or were approved for other makes but normally they would be marked either Ransomes or Ford Ransomes. Think you will find that Ferguson made all their own equipment in that period. I owned some Ferguson tool bars up to a year or so ago

and they were a different construction to my Ransomes ones.
However, in later years Bomford made Superflow cultivators that were badged MF, MF ploughs were outsourced to Salopian Kenneth Hudson and others and of course SteelFab made loaders for all manufactures badged as MF, Ford, David Brown and IH.

I compared the two with a picture I have and the ones in the flick.
Seems your right Brian. As always of course. And my mistake.
The system looks the same with springs and the toolbars and the 3 point link system, but there are much differences.
Ransomes uses square bars and clamps to connect the tools as Fergie profile lines with holes to connect the tools.
The pyramid for the 3p linkage has a connection in front and under the bars for the arms as the Fergie has them above the bars. The Dexta and the Major have different pyramids in height and a slightly different construction.
Seems both brands did a bit of spying. Just like Toyota and Mazda did on their cars.
I shall tell my friend tonight that he has a real Fergie cultivator and not a Ransomes.
