Recently finished restoring our old McConnel digger, it is a Mk1 with 12B armhead and the older style 4 levers. We think it was built in 1963.
Today it was out and about in the sunshine digging some test holes for drainage. It probably won't see any serious work, but will be handy around the yard.
I was surprised at the speed and power, even with the Major running at only 900rpm, I will probably add another 2 weights to the front as it felt a bit light on the front end going uphill.

Re: McConnel Digger
hiya,
That's a nice looking setup.
I've got a the same digger arm myself, bought for dirt cheap at an auction a couple of years back. It is rather tatty now and I'm hoping to get around to cleaning and painting her up.
I've tried to find information out about but have struggled. Basically what colour should it be, the name of the colour would be helpful!
Also could it run behind a E1a Major, I've got one but I'm not that sure about the hydraulic capabilities!
Thanks
Billy
