Ransomes plough

Post by mathias1 »

I'm currently looking at a Ransomes T S R 107 plough for my FSM. There's not much information out there on the internet, like built year, needed HP etc..
Would this be a good plough? At first glance it looks complete.

thanks!

Is it the same as a 102 but with longer frame/clearance? http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from= ... 7&_sacat=0

If so then a Super is fine - see Adrian's videos, although you'll maybe need a little extra front weight?

On the picture it seems that the 107 is longer. Is that an advantage? Any other things i need to check? I have a set of 4 front weights available. Only need to shop for the bolts and nuts to bolt on

I don't suppose in 'normal' situations there is much advantage.. but bigger clearances are good where you have to bury a lot of stuff, like oilseed-rape stubble, or long grass/set-aside/green manure, or a heavy application or muck. Or when ploughing at high speed, say over 8km/h... 8)

I've brought the plough home last weekend.
It's still on the trailer, will post some pictures when I get it off :-)

Looks good! It has obviously been looked after, and kept inside. Is the turnover mechanism all ok?

there has been some welding on the turn mechanism. It turns, but not always completely. That and trying to lift it higher are two things I need to look further into.
I guess I will get a manual for it from ebay.

From what I remember from trying to sell 107's when we could not get 102's is that the 107 has wider furrows, 14" adjustable to 16" whereas the 102 is 12" to 14". My customers did not want them as the furrow slice was too big for their land.

Apart from that they are a good plough but will be getting a bit of a load for a Super. They were mainly aimed at 5000 owners.
