Hallo,
over here in Germany we hardly find a Boughton winch.
Now I was offerd a Modell 205.
Does anyone know, what time they were build?
It is a two Speed Version, what would be the pulling potential?

Kind regards
Matthias

Boughtons were T T Boughton of Amersham Common in Buckinghamshire Mathias, I don't think I have ever seen a catalogue but they were the manufacturing side of a company involved in timber extraction & haulage from Victorian days, they made steam winches for cut down steam lorries like the Foden with a reputation of huge line pull capacity, they supplied many winches for ex military AWD vehicles and had a tremendous reputation for strength & durability in the timber trade. Later they made them for crawler and 4wd tractors with a special line for hauling high tension power cables onto pylons for our national grid system.

You may be able to gauge the pull from the breaking strain of the cable, they generally had the capacity to break it !

woodcutter or bensdexta might know more as this previous thread mentions the 205 but photobucket has assasinated the photo's  http://www.fordsontractorpages.nl/phpbb ... f=9&t=3571

HTH get you going, it looks a reaaly nice winch and I am envious

If I get the chance of a boughton I would buy it, they are getting hard to get in uk, I find them good for heavy pulls for lighter stuff a more modern skidding winch is better. I'm looking for one at moment to put on super major
