Ransome TS82

Post by Biovet »

Afternoon all,

I have just been offered a Ransome TS82 2 furrow reversible.
It doesn’t look like new but has been dry stored. All the frame work
is good and there is enough life left in the moleboards etc that they
will be good for another few seasons. My question is that I intend to
use it behind my super major BUT does it need to have a depth wheel
(it doesn’t have one).

It doesn’t have any discs....... is that ok ?
However I t DOES have a set of skimmers on it.

Anyone care to throw a valuation out there so I can see how far the seller
is from a price?
Can’t get a picture until tonight
Thanks again

I think the need for land wheels on implements stopped with the introduction of 'intelligent' draft control having the active top link like the supers.

Disk or knife coulters go back to horse drawn days - how you decide what suits your land I don't think I've read in any tractor handbook, the sort of skills which were carried forward`` from the earlier technology.

Probably not the answer you need.............

That’s for the reply Oehrick!
So what your saying is the depth wheel is basically optional
and isn’t going to mess things up on a super ?
I think a set of disks would be a good idea as we do a three
year rotation on clover fields so would probably be a
good idea to cut the ground to make a tidier job of it.

Thank again

Hello
I have a TS82A which runs behind a Super Major np and my experience is that it works fine without a depth wheel but if you are on strong land you may find that you need wheel weights on the front wheels because when the hydraulics try to ease the plough upwards and transfer weight to the back wheels you may find that the front wheels come off the floor instead.

As far as discs or no discs is concerned, I would prefer to go without them because every time you turn the plough over they make such a noise clanging against the skimmers that you may find you have a serious headache at the end of the day. You can make a satisfactory job without them.

As far as price is concerned it really boils down to your own gut feeling and if you think it will do the job that you want it to. You could go onto the internet and see what other like plough sellers are asking, but I am sure you are aware that asking and getting are not quite the same thing.
Hope this helps,
Peter

If the skimmers are set correctly I don't see the need for discs on the front two furrows. A disc on the third should give you an upright firm furrow wall and clean furrow bottom to drive in. Ensures that depth is constant. Disc movement can be limited by use of a short chain.
