Bespoke Dexta Muck Cart

Post by alang »

Hello there,

I had an old dumper or a couple of years but the steering box bust. I took off the back axel, engine, gearbox and steering then just needed to tidy up the chassis and weld on a towing eye to reinforce the existing rear tow point.

The bonus was selling the single cylinder Lister/Petter diesel engine on Ebay for as much as the dumper originally cost me.

The lifting handle at the front is from the back cross member of a Land-Rover 90.

The Dexta pulls it well but you have to avoid tight corners.

Thats well tidy. I am looking to do something similar using land rover stub axles, hubs and wheels for an IBC trailer to take 1000lts of water to irrigate my veg plot . I like the idea of a dumper though, very useful bit of kit I should think.

Huzy,

I'm trying to picture your bowser - is there anyway you can sketch it and show us?

Cheers
Alan

Here's a picture of my water trailer, that I use for carting water for our horses.
It's just a 1000 litre plastic tank in a cage, mounted on a frame on an axle/drawbar setup.

That is brilliant, and exactly what I had in mind for mine. Like the wheels too, very smart.
I have got most of the steel now to start building. I am using a piece of box section off a big old Kverneland 6 furrow plough as the axle. I am going to get hold of some 10-12mm thick steel to make the back plates for the stub axles, and will use some old high voltage overhead line pole cross arms for the triangulation rails to a drawbar made from an old transformer channel section. (Handy working on the overhead power lines :D )
Once I get going with mine, I will stick a few piccies on here.
Thanks Kiwi Kev.

Huzy,

The bowser looks great.
Did you have to flush the container or was it guaranteed chemical free?
I see your not relying on gravity. Is the PTO pump for filling or emptying or both?

Cheers

Hi Alan
Thanks for the compliment regarding the bowser. I must admit to being quite pleased with it.
The tank came from severn trent water and was cleaned out by them, so hopefully, should be ok.
The pump is generaly used for emptying through sprinklers, but could be used for filling if I can get close enough to the flood in the corner of the field without sinking!!!
Will get some piccies of it in action this weekend as the forecast is for a lovely dry weekend 8)

I see this is an old topic but I am fascinated by the PTO pump:- where can I buy one?
