OK, Progress ! Let's try the animation ...

Testing suspended. Method unsuitable. FTP server closed down.

Brian, Oscar,
Please try upload/download as per previous instructions.
Keep them in this 'thread' though, in case anything 'untoward' becomes apparent and i have to make changes.
Things will be a 'little' slow, because the wifi network connection is not that fast (coming from upstairs, through 2 brick walls, into my garage) but should be servicable for tests.

Everyone else, reports on seeing the posts and display speed will be useful.

I knew that showing a picture of one of my granddaughters would solve the problems :D
Name:Kelly, Age 3 going on 25.

No, actually it was having 2 directory names, inside the ftp root, with spaces in them. I should have known better
The spaces get converted to 'tokens' and those tokens were conflicting with FTP and BBCode.

I need to occasionaly remember the 'golden rule'.
"When something goes wrong, it's usually a 'loose nut' and it's always found on the keyboard" :rulez:

Hiya Mike!

I tested the ftp connection. I can upload stuff to your server, but once uploaded I cannot delete or modify the files.

Thanks for all the hard work - much appreciated!!

Oscar,

Yes, correct.
For the moment, you only have upload/download capability.
I have reserved delete/modify etc. for myself, just during testing phase. I will modify yours and Brians account when initial testing is completed.
Show me a picture or something.

Okidoki. I uploaded two pics to your Misc folder.

This stuff is roughly the same age as the old Dextas and Majors we discuss here, it is just as durable, just as collectable and just as beautiful. Too bad the company has filed for bankruptcy, that really saddens me. This particular model is from the mid-'60s but I have models dating back to the mid-'50s.

Oscar,

Brilliant !
I've just stopped in a parking area and connected with a USB stick.
Connection is only 7.2 Mb/sec, not very good but there are 2 pictures of trains.
I'm really 'chuffed' :D
Looks like we are 'on our way'.
Come on Brian, let's see a test picture from you as well, then I'll give you both 'Full' control so we can see how quickly all 3 of us can 'screw it up'. :)

Sorry Mike,

But nothing I do will get the page to come up. I'm trying the Vista unit now but so far I can see neither the pictures or links from Oscar or the other picsI. I have just got the white square and red cross for Oscars.

Testing again now.

Hi Guys
On this computer (with XP), if I use the Firefox browser, I can see all of the pics, with IE, I can't see any of them. On my other computer ( Vista Basic, IE), I can see all but Oscar's. I don't know if this helps any, but I appreciate all your hard work.

Mike,

I have got as far as the password page this time but again I get the same message and then a blank screen. It tells me "Explorer" cannot show the page.

Also I cannot use the "Start" method you suggest as that does not open an Explorer that allows me Internet access. I have to open "Internet Explorer" and go from there.

Hello Mike

At work I saw everything including Oscar's pic. :P
At home I lost the train pics from Oscar.
Could it be a firewall or other safety settings?
I will look at work tomorrow.
Kind regards, Henk

URGENT

Post by Mike Kuscher »

Guys,

I have been worrying what was going wrong.
I now think that some of you may have not understood correctly what is happening.

I am not setting up another web page to show pictures.
This site does that. Why invent the wheel again ?
I am setting up an internet based file storage area where pictures and other information can be placed, for showing on this site.

I do not expect you to see any pictures by going to the 'fordsonlad' address.
You should see them here through the usual link.

If any of you can not see the pictures in this site, then I have a problem

If you are saying that you are having trouble seeing them at the 'fordsonlad' address, then I am not surprised, that's not what it's for.
How to use that will be explained when it's ready. :)

Are any of you having trouble seeing the pictures in here ?

If so...
Go Internet Explorer - Tools - Internet Options
Select the ADVANCED tab
In the BROWSING section, put at 'tick' against the ENABLE FTP FOLDER VIEW
Take the tick OFF against USE PASSIVE FTP, further down the list. (Thanks Rick)
Then click apply.
Let me know if this cures it.

Mike

Mike, you will be pleased to know that the pictures have reached as far as Australia. It must be a very powerful server you have there! They even appear the right way up.

Mike, we are told that there is no such thing as reality, only perception. If you perceive your pictures to be the right way up, that is reality to you!!

Mike,
I've been trying to view the pictures on this BB, not on your server. Both of the boxes are checked and I still can see all the pics but Oscar's on this (Vista OS) computer. I'll check the other (XP OS) computers tomorrow.

For the record, I use Firefox and I connect to Mike's ftp server with a Firefox plug-in called FireFTP.
