A lot of forums have problems....

Post by Bensdexta »

Mods and members please be aware:

I'm a member of another forum that crashed today, possibly because of rogue PMs being posted advising members that ....viruses are active on their computer. If you receive such a PM don't click on any links it may contain.

Many forums have been affected.

We are cleaning the forum many times in a 24 hour period. I have spent all the time I have allocated to the site removing unwanted new members over the past few weeks and spent little time with problems, but you are doing so well without my input.

I am afraid that yahoo.com and aol.com are the source of a lot of problems but are disinclined to do anything about it. We already ban Hotmail and Google G-mail because of problem posters.

Some of our new members do not help themselves either.

Please! if you want to join in the forum, you are welcome but at least give the poor moderators a clue to your interests in our site.

Strange names and nothing else filled in usually causes an adverse reaction from us all.

I hope we are keeping fairly frequent backs-ups so if anything does go wrong we don't loose too many pearls of wisdom

Thanks to the mods for looking after us.

I sometimes try to send folks over here from the Yesterdays tractors site, but only if they are genuine Fordson folks looking to get, or share Fordson info. Dandy Dave!

Some of my suppliers will not accept any dealings with companies who use Hotmail, G-Mail, yahoo and aol. They have so much trouble with them.

My heating oil supplier will not accept any orders from those servers.

We do get people on here who get a bit upset that we won't accept their applications but everytime we reinstate them it starts all over again.

All,

I changed the subject line of this topic. Certain words attract a certain kind of attention which may lead to the exact sort of thing that we are trying to avoid.

In our family we only use hotmail for emails, are there real problems with it?
Someone quite genuine on the British farming forum tried to register on here for some help but got turned down. Is there any way around this?

Hotmail was one of the worst problems.

Oscar re-instated it last year and within hours, my computor was infected with "naughty pictures". It was very hard to get rid of and I went off line for some weeks as I tried to sort the problem.

Its not the addresses, its the people that use them. It is too easy for the silly people to get on line and the providers don't want to police them. And as we keep saying, it is not only this site that is having to restrict who comes on using those suppliers.

The answer, unfortunately, is to find a "clean" provider which means possibly paying for it. I use BT as you know.

For those in business and who are using the common free providers it is like sitting on a ticking bomb. You could find yourself sending "nasties" to your clients or having your details hijacked. A large number of the people I delete could be honest people who have lost their address to hackers.

I have 10 or 12 email addresses that I pay for on my contract with my ISP. They have some kind of a partnership with Yahoo. I used to have a free email address with Yahoo several years ago. When I signed up with this ISP, they said that I could use my old Yahoo address as my main email address. Now, it looks like I have a free Yahoo address, but I really don't. If this gets to be a problem, I guess that I can switch to one of my other addresses that don't end with @yahoo,com.
For some people, the internet is just for fun, and they may not want to pay for an email address. Are there any good free ones out there?

IE comes with free Yahoo and Hotmail but I just ignore them. We used to have an aol mail provider too way back.

The past few years I have been with BT whch has proved pretty good. The problems we had last year was due to my old Windows 98 system not being able to handle the new protection systems that they were providing and the attacker had my e-mail address.

Pete,
If your friend wants to contact me direct on fordsontractorpages@btconnect.com I will be happy to post his queries or answer them direct.

Chaps,

If I am not around from now it is because I have just been notified on my tractor pages e-mail, that I have $4 million dollars in a Ghanaan bank waiting to be collected!

Mr Fred Malick assures me this is correct and if I send him my bank account details and an arm and leg, I can get it straight away.

I am off to pack my case and organise shipping for all the Dexta, Major, County and Roadless tractors I am going to use on the thousand acres I have just put in an offer for based on this news. :stress:

I really must start taking the pink pills again

Mike,

I will see your Fred Maleck and raise you The United Nations who have another $4 million in a Fedex account waiting for more money and the other arm and leg from me.

Notification came in this morning, this means I will need more tractors and land. Must get on to the land agents and increase my requirements.

(Remember to increase number of pink pills)

Just a thought. What if it really is true? :run:

United Nations Assisted Program
Directorate of International Payment
United Nations Liaison Office - Africa
Fund Beneficiary,

This email is to notify you about the release of your outstanding
payment which is truly $4.7 million. The Federal Government scheduled
a time frame to settle all foreign debts which includes
Contract/Inheritance/Gambling/ Lottery (Sponsored by Microsoft and UK
National Lottery) and other international loans (IMMEDIATE CONTRACT
PAYMENT.CONTRACT #:MAV/NNPC/FGN/MIN/009) . News had it that over the
past, numerous individual(s) who happen to be impostors (claiming to
be individuals, banks and organizations) are claiming to release
numerous sums of fund via numerous ways.

You have two options to receive your payment which is either a Pin
Based ATM card or Certified Cashiers Check. You are advised to select
one out of the two options on how you wish to receive your $4.7
million. Your ATM card or Check/Bank Draft will be shipped via FedEx
Shipping Company and would get to you within 2 to 3 working days at
most. DO NOT SEND MONEY TO ANYONE UNTIL YOU READ THIS:
The actual fees for shipping your ATM card is $525.99 but because
FedEx have temporarily discontinued the C.O.D which gives you the
chance to pay when package is delivered for international shipping as
stated on their

website: fedex.com/us/ international/irc/profiles/irc_ng_profile.html?gtmcc=us# C10

We had to sign contract with them for bulk shipping which makes the
fees reduce from the actual $525.99 to $496.99 nothing more and no
hidden fees of any sort! You are advised to contact the dispatch
officer responsible for the shipping of your Check or ATM card with
the following information for shipping of your payment Check or ATM
card.

Dispatch Officer: Agent Hall Smith
E mails : fedexdispacher at hotmail.com
Address: Fedex courier company No. 60, Mango Tree Ave.,
Asylum Down, Box Kia 9518, Accra Ghana

And provide him with the following information:
Full Name______
Country______
State______
City______
Zip Code______
Full Address______
Phone Number______
Occupation____
Sex______
Your Age__________
Preferred Payment Method (Check or ATM):................

The dispatch officer will provide you with instructions on how you are
to make payment of the $496.99 only for the shipping of your ATM card
or Cashiers Check.

Remember that you are not paying any fees extra no matter what. Once
again note that the actual FedEx Retail Price: $525.99 Your Price
(Because of our contract signed): $496.99 ($29.00 Savings!).

Respectfully,

Apparently the reason the forum (Volvo Owners) crashed was because the database got too big and overran settings in the config file.

Good to know it was malicious
